Spend a night in nature! We offer camping opportunities for groups and individuals and families. The District has five group campgrounds located throughout the county, one over night cyclist camping location, and one campground for individuals and families which accommodates both tents and RVs.

Picnic Areas & Shelters
McHenry County Conservation District has several shelters and picnic areas available for reservation on a first come, first serve basis. Permits are required for Shelters or Picnic Areas when the group is 16 or more people, or by a group that wants to guarantee exclusive use of that area.


Special Use Permits
Special Request Permits are required to use Conservation Areas for a one-time event or recurring dates, including but not limited to sporting events, track meets, large picnics, walkathons, bike events, etc.

Photography/Film Permits
A permit is required for some photography and videography. Examples include commercial and portrait photography (wedding, graduation, family, etc.), student film production, small film production, and large film production.

School Use Permits
Permits are required for special school sporting events such as cross county and track  as well as for self-guided school field trips and education related activities for groups of 16 or more people.

Wedding Permits
Say "I do" at a Conservation District site. Weddings and large group picnics can be hosted at Pleasant Valley, Brookdale, or Fel-Pro RRR.
